HIV or AIDS is prevalent in
less developed countries like countries in Africa, India, and Bangladesh. Although prevention campaign of HIV leads to the decline of HIV cases in the world, everyone is not free of the possibility of getting infected. Until today, there is no proven effective way to cure patients infected with HIV.
Infected
pregnant women must be aware that even their babies can be infected with HIV. I believe that pregnant women should be given more information about the killer virus. They should be given proper medical attention to prevent their babies from getting infected.
I deeply appreciate the effort of the New York State in giving proper care to pregnant women. Although HIV testing is voluntary, it is a necessity for women to undergo
HIV testing. If a woman is positive with HIV, it must be treated early so that passing of HIV to the baby is reduced. Newborn babies must also undergo HIV testing. Proper medication is provided by the state and in this way, the spread of the disease is prevented. If the woman is HIV positive, to ensure the family's safety, it is recommended that her children and partner should undergo HIV testing too. The result is confidential only to the patient and the medical health worker. There are many available resources provided by the state in helping women and their babies who are infected with the virus.
